1981 - Andalucía’s first Statute of Autonomy is approved by Congress.
1983 - 81 people lose their lives and another 24 are injured when a fire caused by a short circuit breaks out in the Alcalá 20 discotheque in Madrid. Many of the victims were crushed to death as the 600 people inside tried to escape the inferno.
1933 - Spain's 2nd government of Lerroux forms

1574 - Pedro Téllez-Girón, 3rd Duke of Osuna was a nobleman and politician. He was the 2nd Marquis of Peñafiel, 7th Count of Ureña, Spanish Viceroy of Sicily (1611-1616) Viceroy of Naples (1616-1620) a Knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece since 1608. Grandee of Spain, member of Spanish Supreme Council of War, and the subject of several poems by his friend, counselor and assistant Francisco de Quevedo (d. 1624)
1642 - Francisco Castillo Fajardo, general and 2nd Marquis of Villadarias born in Málaga (d. 1716 Madrid)
1810 - Francisco Serrano Domínguez Cuenca y Pérez de Vargas. 1st Duke of la Torre, Grandee of Spain. Count of San Antonio was a marshal and statesman. He was Prime Minister of Spain in 1868-69 and regent in 1869-70 (d. November 26, 1885 Madrid)
1868 - José Comas y Solá, astronomer of Catalan origin, discoverer of minor planets, comets, and double stars. He wrote his first astronomy notes at 10, and was only fifteen when he published an article in a French specialist magazine (d. 1937)
