1782 - In Spain the Royal Army Ordinance mayors and province, which divided the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata in eight municipalities is issued.
1810 - In Spain, the Napoleonic armies are advancing on Andalucía and in this day are triumphant in Granada.
1920 - the Spanish Legion is founded as the ‘Tercio de Extranjeros,’ by a Royal Decree issued by Alfonso XIII

1930 - General Miguel Primo de Rivera, presents his resignation to the King Alfonso XIII, (hence ending his dictatorship which began on 13 September 1923)  and goes into exile in Paris. He died less than two months later.
2017 - Barcelona becomes the first European city to prohibit new hotels in the city centre – the Barcelona City Hall, directed by Ada Colau approved a plan yesterday to place a veto on hotels as an electoral decision.

1831 - Zeferino González, was a Spanish Dominican theologian, and philosopher, Archbishop of Seville and Cardinal. (d. 1894)
1842 - Tirso de Olazábal y Lardizábal, 1st Count of Arbelaiz, 1st Count of Oria, was a Spanish noble and Carlist politician. (d. 1921)
1853 - José Marti y Perez, Cuban poet, essayist and politician (fought for independence from Spain) born in Havana, Cuba (d. 1895)
1879 - Julián Elorza Aizpuru (1879-1964) was a Spanish Carlist politician. He is best known as advocate of Basque autonomous establishments, promoted during the Restoration, the Primo de Rivera dictatorship and the Second Republic. (d. 1964)

1889 - Ramon Iglesias i Navarri , born in Vall de Boí was He was the Bishop of Urgell and Episcopal Co-Prince of Andorra from 4 April 1943, until 29 April 1969. During World War II, he helped to keep Andorra neutral and strongly promoted a Spanish influence in the principality. It is during his time that tourism was developed. Navarri was ordained priest on 14 July 1912, at the age of 23. (d. 1972)
1893 - Josep Vicenç Foix i Mas  was a Catalan poet, writer, and essayist in Catalan. He usually signed his work by using the abbreviation J.V. (d. 1987)
1894 - Fidela Campiña Ontiveros, Opera singer, in Tíjola, Almería,(d.2013)
1899 - Luis de Urquijo, 2nd Marquess of Bolarque, was President of Real Madrid between 1926 and 1930. (d. 1975)
1901 - Isabel Garcés Cerezal, stage and film actress. (d. 1981)
1915 - Susana March Alcalá, writer and poet who wrote using colloquial language. Born in Barcelona, she published her first poems in 1932, at the age of 17. She married the writer Ricardo Fernández de la Reguera, and together they worked on continuing with the national events founded by Benito Pérez Galdós, publishing the Episodios Nacionales. (d. 1990)

1930 - Luis de Pablo, composer and musicologist, born in Bilbao belonging to the generation of Spanish composers named by Cristóbal Halffter as Generación del 51.
1944 - Rosalía Mera, businesswoman, co-founded Inditex and Zara (d. 2013)
1944 - Vicente Jiménez Zamora is a Spanish prelate of the Catholic Church who has been the Archbishop of Zaragoza since 2014. He was Bishop of Osma-Soria from 2004 to 2007 and Bishop of Santander from 2007 to 2014.
1945 - José Luis Perales, pop singer-songwriter (Quisiera Decir tu Nombre - I would like to say your name) born in Castejón
1946 - Copla singer, Carlos Cano, in Granada.(d.2000)
1947 - Txetxu Rojo, footballer and trainer.
1948 - Celso Morga Iruzubieta  is the current Archbishop of Mérida-Badajoz.
He had previously served as Secretary of the Congregation for the Clergy, since his appointment by Pope Benedict XVI on 29 December 2010 Iruzubieta studied at a diocesan seminary. He was ordained a priest on 24 June 1972 for the diocese of Calahorra y la Calzada in Logroño,

1953 - Gerardo Herrero is a film director, screenwriter and producer. He is one of the most important producers of Latin American films.
1975 - Pablo Zalba Bidegain is an economist and politician and has been a Member of the European Parliament (MEP), for the European People's Party, in office June 2009 to November 2016.
1979 - Carlos José Rodríguez Sequera, is a former Spanish professional darts player, playing in Professional Darts Corporation events.
