1992 - in Alcàsser,the events of the brutal Crime of Alcàsser take place: three girls of 14 and 15 years old who were hitchhiking are raped and killed.
2002 - The Prestige oil tanker suffers hull damage off Galicia’s Coast of Death. The ship broke in two on the 19th, shedding an estimated 63,000 tons of fuel. It was the start of Spain’s worst environmental disaster to date and one of the worst to have taken place in the northeast Atlantic.

2017 - ‘The drought and the lack of water threatens 35,800 hectares of cultivations in Alicante province’ – the countryside has lost 40% of its fertility over the last decade despite areas with heavy rains such as Galicia.  The farmers alert they need a third of the total supply, and hence the mature fruit is smaller in size.
