1840 - The priest and Saint, Enrique de Ossó y Cervelló, was born in Vinebre, Tarragona province. He founded the Congregation of Santa Teresa de Jesús, and was declared Saint by Pope John Paul II in 1993.
1904 - Isabel Alfonsa de Borbon y Borbon, Infanta of Spain and Countess Zamoyska, granddaughter of Alfonso XII, Alfonso XIII niece and aunt of King Juan Carlos I.

0976 - Alhakén II, caliph omeya of Córdoba (b. 915)
1130 - Pedro González de Lara, Castilian magnate. He served Alfonso VI as a young man, and later became the lover of Alfonso's heiress, Queen Urraca. He may have joined the First Crusade in the following of Raymond IV of Toulouse, earning the nickname of Romero

1881 - Marcial del Adalid, composer.
2000 - Col Antonio Muñoz Cariñanos, a doctor with the Spanish Air Force, was shot dead by two ETA terrorists in his private consulting rooms in Seville.
2000 - Antonio Ferrandis Monrabal, died at the age of 79. During his lengthy career, he played the part of Antonio Albajara in the José Luis Garci film ‘Volver a Empezar’ (1982 Oscar for best foreign language film, and the first Spanish film to do so), and of ‘Chanquete’ in the popular television series ‘Verano Azul’ which was set in Nerja.
